Here The Melaka BabaNyonya Trip

~History of BabaNyonya~

Over 400 years ago, the Chinese people arrived in Peninsular Malaysia, some were businessmen while others Cheng He followers to Nan yang. They decides to stay in Malacca empire and settled down with the local bumiputera. Their children were called "Baba" for man and "Nyonya" for the woman. The distinct background, cultures and customs blended together and became baba nyonya in "Peranakan" culture. They also being known as "straits-born Chinese". This is a unique culture in Melaka because the Chinese culture is assimilated into Malays customs. During the ancient time, they retained some practices of Chinese culture but at the same time adapted local Malay tradition.

~BabaNyonya Heritage Museum~

Back to the trip, first we arrive the museum, i feel that the house so small , what can be put inside also limited but inside the house was totally different, it is so long and huge~~~ the museum can be category to different section, guest room, dining room, wedding room , and the servant place. BabaNyonya believe in fengshui, so that one section of the roof was open and the floor was one step down, when raining the water will be store at there. Water represent money, lock the water mean lock the money. At the Dining room, they have different 4 dinner set, two

of the set was freaking expensive, it cost my whole seminar fee. They use different dinner set for different festival or event, the normal white and blue plate only use when funeral, Guess what, they actually do not use chopstick, but use hand like the Malay style. We also found some special tool at the kitchen, it is a ice cream maker. But I believe it was use to make ice kacang type of ice cream. The floor was use different pattern to differentiate each section of the house. The second floor of the Museum have a wedding room. There full of he wedding props, and the wedding cloth. it look like Chinese style but with local pattern decoration. The wedding room have a small hole to look at the front door from the top, so they can knew who visit them. On second floor have 3 bottle of wine, it is 100 over years, but unfortunately cant take photo...what a waste... Continue, we also be introduce about the cloth from different generation, and some leisure game like the Mahjong's. Conclusion, The Museum was awesome, instead of the size and the antique price, can you imagine that a house mix with different culture, but end up come out with a special and unique style.

~What I Interest with the BabaNyonya~

Actually I quite interest with the Marriage of BabaNyonya. Besides than the cloth, the rule they need to follow before marriage, is it consider as a conservative culture? but they also much influence by the British man. The process of their wedding, the dinner set use for wedding, the props for wedding, it all complicated process but they still follow, it show how important the culture practice for them. Now a days, BabaNyonya is disappearing in Malaysia and Singapore,

will this the end of the BabaNyonya wedding? will it be show only in history ?

Some time after the gods took over the heavens from the Titans, the time came when the earth needed new life brought upon it. This great task was given to Epimetheus and Prometheus. Epimetheus brought forth animals and gave them the greatest of qualities. After this was done, Prometheus noticed there were no great qualities left to give mankind to make them a match for the animals. With that, Prometheus stole fire from the heavens and gave it to the mortals. Zeus, insufferably angered by this thievery, had Hephaestus create a woman out of clay and dress her up with gifts from the gods. From Aphrodite she received beauty, Hermes gave her the power of persuasion, and Athena gave her all those feminine skills (you know what I'm talking about). This creation was named Pandora.
According to the Hesiod, Zeus then sent Pandora to Epimetheus as a gift. Epimetheus then proceeded to marry her against the wishes of his brother Prometheus who warned him never to take a gift from Zeus. Pandora was also sent with a strange jar* that was given to her by Zeus. Epimetheus forbade her ever to open this jar. Of course, Pandora secretly opened up the jar and out flew evil, despair, and all other unpleasurable obstacles for mankind to face. The only element that remained was hope.
